Superintendent's Role in The Budget Process

After interviewing Jean Isaly, the Superintendent of my district, I learned that the Superintendent’s role in the budgeting process is critical to the development of the District budget.  Mrs. Isaly stated that the Superintendent is solely responsible for preparing and submitting the District Budget to the School Board.  The Superintendent also mentioned the importance of having a strong District Educational Improvement Committee because that committee is responsible for creating and ordering the goals for the budget.  The Chief Financial Officer also plays an integral part of the budget process in our district and Mrs. Isaly mentioned the importance of communication between the Superintendent and the members of the School Board.  She said it was critical to keep them informed of events within the district.

I have learned that the Superintendent is responsible for the budget development process.  The Superintendent must be able to explain any and all parts as needed to the Board.  I understand that the development of the budget drives our entire district in planning and developing new strategies to improve our district.  As Superintendent, ensuring the budget is properly planned and managed is one major part of their job.
